Era da un po’ che ci lavoravo, sempre aggiungendo nuovi titoli. Alcuni nel frattempo sono anche usciti e sono stati recensiti, per altri, pubblicati in questo periodo di pausa estiva nell’uscita delle riviste musicali italiane specializzate, provvederò alle recensioni nei giorni a venire, come promesso. Ecco, così come sono venute, senza seguire un ordine cronologico preciso, alcune delle principali uscite dei prossime mesi (altre tipo le due uscite dei Los Lobos previste per agosto sono state già segnalate in precedenza, a maggio).
Partiamo con Pat Travers, che è l’unico con una data di uscita imminente, il 31 luglio, per la Cleopatra Records, si chiamerà Blues On Fire ed è una raccolta di classici del Blues, perlopiù Pre-War, rivisti nel classico stile rock-blues del chitarrista canadese, questa la tracklist:

Questo è l’anno delle elezioni negli Stati Uniti e Ry Cooder se ne occupa, questa è un commento traccia per traccia, a cura dello stesso Cooder, dal sito della Nonesuch:
Mutt Romney Blues: Reverend Al Sharpton said, “How he treated his dog tells you a lot about him.” Where did Mitt Romney learn that hollow laugh of his? A correspondence course on how to scare your dog shitless? He sure scares me, I don’t mind telling you.
Brother Is Gone: The only logical explanation for the Brothers I could come up with is, they made their deal at the crossroads with Satan. Satan will need to get paid, but in the meantime, they are doing everything in their power to hurt you and me. The big hurt.
The Wall Street Part of Town: Is there a Wall Street part of town in your town? Start your own, it’s easy. When the police come, remind them that you pay their salary, such as it may be.
Guantanamo: There’s a beautiful Cuban song about a country girl from Guantanamo. The lyrics were written over a hundred years ago, and they say something about peace and freedom, so I guess the problem hasn’t been solved yet. Prisons are the new growth industry.
Cold Cold Feeling: The president, alone in the dark, walks the Oval Office floor. Before you criticize and accuse, walk a mile in his shoes.
Going to Tampa: As a mother, will Sarah Palin lead the Republican convention in a prayer for Treyvon? Will “Stand Your Ground” stand? Don’t forget your bed sheet and keep your money in your shoes.
Kool-Aid: A lament for this guy Zimmerman, and all the many Zimmermans. Too late, they find their masters have given them gun rights and new “Stand Your Ground” lynching laws instead of good paying jobs and secure futures. They drank the Kool-Aid, they really drank it down.
The 90 and the 9: A possible political discussion between a father and child. Here in Los Angeles, they allow military recruiters in public schools. If you speak against it, they come down hard on you. I don’t even know what name you give to a criminal conspiracy like that.
Take Your Hands off It: Woody said, “This land is your land.” There’s a famous photograph of a sign that reads, “Don’t let the big men take it away.” On the other hand, James Baldwin believed the concepts of nationhood such as freedom, equality, and democracy are superstitions, nothing more.

Bob Dylan – Tempest – Columbia – 11-09-2012
Qualcuno ha ironicamente commentato che Bob Dylan ha lavorato due mesi per la preparazione di questo Tempest che esce nel 50° anniversario vero (non come quello degli Stones) dall’inizio della sua carriera discografica, e due minuti per la copertina. Si tratta del 35° nuovo album di studio di Dylan secondo i calcoli della sua casa discografica ed esce a dieci anni anni esatti da Love & Theft in una data non proprio fausta per la storia degli Stati Uniti. L’unica cosa certa a livello musicale è che ha partecipato ancora una volta David Hidalgo dei Los Lobos, perché l’ha detto lui stesso in alcune interviste, in ogni caso questi i titoli delle canzoni contenute:

Finalmente ritorna anche lui! Era riuscito a litigare con tutte le case discografiche dell’universo e ormai temevo il peggio, invece la Blue Note che se lo era già ripreso alcune volte lo ha messo sotto contratto per questo nuovo album registrato a Belfast, a casa sua (letteralmente) e addirittura con un produttore, Don Was! A tre anni dal disco dal vivo all’Hollywood Bowl (di cui doveva uscire anche un DVD mai visto, se non per una frazione di secondo e poi scomparso) e a quattro da Keep It Simple esce questo nuovo Van Morrison, Born To Sing: No Plan B, titolo quanto mai condivisibile, queste le 10 canzoni contenute:

Il suo “mestiere” è sempre stato quello di cantare le canzoni degli altri e quindi è ovvio che anche questo disco di Bettye Lavette sia composto da covers, cantate divinamente come al solito! Dirty Old Town il celebre brano di Ewan McColl che tutti associano ai Pogues c’è addirittura in due diverse versioni, accanto a brani di Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Tom Waits, Savoy Brown, Black Keys, la famosa Crazy di Brian Burton detto Danger Mouse degli Gnarls Barlkley, che come noterete tra i suoi autori ha recuperato i fratelli Reverberi che erano stati “campionati”.
