Come promesso, eccomi con la prima parte dedicata alle uscite prossime venture, periodo aprile-giugno, quindi grosso modo primavera: così potete regolarvi con i vostri budgets e decidere per tempo cosa ci sia di interessante eventualmente da acquistare. Oppure potete semplicemente leggere, per passare il tempo, queste liste, del tutto arbitrarie (nel senso che scelgo io di cosa parlare), di ciò che verrà pubblicato nei prossimi mesi e, spesso (facciamo ogni tanto) neppure esce. Il caso dell’ultimo John Fogerty, annunciato per ottobre 2012 e in uscita a fine maggio 2013, è abbastanza sintomatico, ma anche l’ultimo dei Mavericks avrebbe dovuto uscire ad agosto 2012 e ha visto la luce tra gennaio e febbraio di quest’anno, con una copertina diversa, e tre brani che non erano previsti nell’uscita originale.
Partiamo dalla fine. Nel senso che è l’ultimo che ho trovato annunciato, ma il primo ad uscire, 9 aprile (solo in Europa, per la Cooking Vinyl): si tratta di un CD dal vivo (non c’è DVD) dei Counting Crows, Echoes Of The Outlaw Roadshow, riporta le registrazioni con il meglio, a loro giudizio, dei concerti tenuti nel tour del Nord America del 2012. Dove, a fianco di alcuni dei loro classici, proponevano anche covers tratte dal loro disco Underwater Sunshine (ma non solo, come si evince dalla tracklist del disco):

Per un titolo, si precisa la provenienza (inconsueta) della cover, ma ci sono anche un paio di Dylan, ad inizio e fine, un brano dei Grateful Dead e alcuni loro classici, con una Round Here di oltre dieci minuti che nella parte centrale cita alcune liriche (e musiche) di Van Morrison, oltre alle versioni delle canzoni dei Teenage Fan Club Start Again, Coby Brown Hospital e Romany Rye Untitled (Love Song). Esce in concomitanza con il tour europeo. In questo momento sono in Australia e Nuova Zelanda, poi una data in Belgio, una in Olanda, alcune nel Regno Unito. Italia? Temo di no! Per fortuna fanno parecchi dischi dal vivo, questo è il quinto, oltre a uno uscito per il download solo su iTunes.
Proseguiamo con le uscite, che sono assolutamente alla rinfusa, come vengono. Se la copertina di questo Box dei Dr.Feelgood All Through The City vi risulta familiare, non vi state sbagliando. In effetti l’avevo già presentato in occasione dell’uscita avvenuta all’incirca un anno fa. Ma ora la EMI (ormai Universal) lo ripubblica in una nuova versione dal formato più contenuto, essendo la prima tiratura andata esaurita: sono sempre 3 CD + 1 DVD che coprono gli anni di Wilko Johnson, dal 1974 al 1977, e perdipiù anche ad un prezzo notevolmente ribassato. Una piccola meraviglia, da non mancare, se ve lo siete perso al primo giro, in uscita il 16 aprile.
70 brani nei CD e 23 nei DVD, veramente imperdibile, una delle band tra i “tesori nascosti” del (pub)rock e del blues britannico degli anni ’70, in questa formazione una forza della natura, straordinari. Se la ristampa di Live At the Marquee dei Nine Below Zero vi aveva gasato, questo vi entusiasmerà!

Sempre a proposito di cofanetti, questo box di 3 DVD dedicato agli Eagles, History Of The Eagles appunto, anche in triplo Blu-Ray e in una limited edition da 250 dollari per fans sfegatati, uscirà il 30 aprile, per la Jigsaw Productions in America e per la Polydor in Europa. Secondo il comunicato stampa, questo il contenuto

• Packaged in a six-panel digipak with accompanying photo booklet.
• 4 hours of never before seen material from the past 40 years.
• Disc One: Part One explores the creation and rise to fame in the 1970’s through their breakup in 1980.

La “fregatura” (tra virgolette, le ho messe) è che il Bonus Disc, quello del concerto, non riporta il concerto completo (che pare esista) ma solo una parte, ci sono i classici, Hotel California, New Kid In Town, Take It To The Limit, One Of These Nights, Lyin’ Eyes, Rocky Mountain Way, Best Of My Love,Take It Easy, ma ne manca un pezzo. Ci si dovrà accontentare, la buona notizia è che dovrebbe costare abbastanza poco, sui 20 euro quella doppia e sui 30 quella con il terzo dischetto bonus.
Nel frattempo, il 2 aprile, la Rhino pubblicherà The Studio Albums 1972-1979 un box con i primi, classici, 6 albums. A prezzo super speciale. I titoli non c’è bisogno di metterli, li vedete. Non lo trovate ancora in questa lista di uscite, ma a maggio, da confermare, è in uscita anche il nuovo album di Don Henley Cass County, in preparazione da tre anni, con la collaborazione di Stan Lynch, il vecchio batterista degli Heartbreakers di Tom Petty, che sembra segnare una sorta di ritorno alle vecchie sonorità del suo gruppo, vedremo. Nel frattempo guardatevi il video qui sotto.
Proseguiamo, sempre a caso. Nuovo album, Steve Earle & The Dukes (& Duchess), The Low Highway, 16 aprile per la New West Records. In questo caso da avere assolutamente la versione CD+DVD, con la parte video che riporta 4 brani dall’Austin City Limits di Earle, il Making Of dell’album, il video di Invisible e l’audio in 24 bit. Dai primi ascolti uno dei suoi migliori in assoluto.
Sempre a proposito di cofanetti, ecco quello dedicato ai Kings Of Leon, The Collection Box, in 5 CD e 1 DVD il 14 maggio p.v., per la Sony Legacy, esce l’opera omnia di una delle band più interessanti del nuovo rock americano. Tutti gli album sono nelle versioni internazionali, quelle con bonus (non molte per la verità, più o meno una per CD, solo nel quinto CD ce ne sono tre), questa la lista completa dei brani, in ogni caso la parte più interessante (oltre al prezzo) è il DVD, dal vivo alla 02 Arena di Londra nel 2009:
