Altri Cofanetti In Uscita A Febbraio, E Uno Anche A Marzo: Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, Little Feat, Deep Purple

Continua inesorabile l’uscita di ristampe in cofanetti, più o meno imprescindbili, dedicati ad artisti o gruppi che hanno fatto la storia del rock, o del soul. Come nel caso dei primi due che vi presento: sono, giustamente, noti come il Re e la Regina del Soul e così, senza molta fantasia, sono stati chiamati i box set dedicati a Otis Redding e Aretha Franklin. Addirittura quello che la Rhino aveva dedicato alla grande Aretha, ed uscito una ventina di anni fa (1992), si chiamava proprio così, The Queen Of Soul. Mentre quello, pure in quattro CD, sulla carriera del suo omologo maschile, portava il titolo di Otis!  The Definitive Otis Redding, pubblicato nel 1993. Entrambi sono fuori catalogo da un po’ di anni (anche se con un po’ di pazienza e soldi, si recuperano ancora) ma queste nuove edizioni della Rhino/Atlantic, in uscita entrambe il 4 febbraio, e che non sono le precise repliche dei vecchi long box editi dalla Warner, hanno il grande pregio di uscire a prezzo super speciale. Quello vecchio di Redding aveva 96 brani, mentre questo nuovo ne avrà 92, la confezione della Franklin riportava 82 tracce, questa nuova ne avrà 83. Che non sono poi esattamente le stesse canzoni, meno o più qualcosina, a seconda dei dischetti, ma per esempio quello della Queen Of Soul conterrà anche alcuni brani “rari” che erano stati inseriti nella compilation Rare and Unreleased Recordings from the Golden Reign of the Queen of Soul del 2007. Stesso discorso, in ambito rock, per quelli che sono stati tra i più grandi in assoluto nella storia della musica americana degli anni ’70 (e anche dopo, fino ad oggi, anche se senza Lowell George non è esattamente la stessa cosa). Il cofanetto dei Little Feat, perchè di loro stiamo parlando, si chiamerà Rad Gumbo. The Complete Warner Bros. Years 1971-1990 ed in 13 CD ripercorrerà la storia di una delle migliori band di tutti i tempi (un po’ lo stesso lavoro che è stato fatto recentemente per Ry Cooder, sempre dalla Warner/Rhino e sempre ad un prezzo assai contenuto, che dovrebbe oscillare intorno ai 50 euro, poco più, poco meno, a seconda dei vari paesi). La data fissata per l’uscita è il 25 febbraio p.v. Gli inediti, saranno quelli contenuti nel tredicesimo CD, Selections From Hotcakes and Outtakes, il cofanetto della Warner Archives, uscito nel 2000, e verranno recuperati per questa nuova confezione, oltre alle varie bonus tracks contenute nelle ristampe dei singoli CD che si sono succeduti nel corso degli anni, in primis per la Deluxe Edition doppia di Waiting For Columbus. Come vedete dell’ultimo dischetto non c’è ancora la lista definitiva dei brani, ma si presume, salvo scherzetti dei compilatori che potrebbero costringere all’acquisto anche chi ha già tutto, che dovrebbe avere lo stesso contenuto del quarto CD di Hotcakes & Outtakes. La parola anche in questo caso è “splendido”! (lo so, si ricompra sempre la stessa roba, ma per chi ha perso il primo giro o per le nuove generazioni, anche se dubito fortemente; un’altra parola è: imperdibile)!

Per finire, una segnalazione, visto che non si sanno ancora con precisione i contenuti e l’esatta data di uscita. Qualcuno dirà: ma non erano già uscite un tot di versioni di Made In Japan dei Deep Purple? Sì, ma questa è quella per il 40° anniversario dalla data di pubblicazione del doppio vinile originale. Ah beh, allora. Intanto una delle novità è che la farà la Universal, che nel frattempo ha acquisito i diritti del vecchio catalogo EMI. Poi che sarà un cofanetto di 4 CD, con le date complete a Osaka del 15 e 16 agosto 1972, più il 17 a Tokyo, nei primi tre dischi, e, curiosamente, un quarto che riporterà tutti i bis dei vari concerti (quindi ci becchiamo tre volte Black Nights, quasi in sequenza). Ma non è finita, perchè ci sarà un quinto dischetto, un DVD, con un documentario realizzato per l’occasione, con l’aggiunta di vario materiale per audiofili: il video non c’è perché i concerti all’epoca non furono ripresi. Per i “maniaci sessuali” del vinile ne uscirà una versione addirittura in nove LP!!! Il tutto è stato, dicono, “rimixato”, non rimasterizzato, uhm?!? La data indicativa dovrebbe essere fine marzo, quando ci saranno ulteriore notizie nuovo Post.
