Tutti i nomi riportati nel titolo del Post sono previsti in uscita per il 20 maggio (e sono solo i più importanti, ho visto annunciati per quella data anche i No Sinner di Colleen Rennison, i Posies, Brett Dennen, Marissa Nadler e altri meno conosciuti o che non interessano per i contenuti del Blog). Del nuovo Bob Dylan Fallen Angels abbiamo già parlato nei giorni scorsi con la recensione dell’EP giapponese http://discoclub.myblog.it/2016/04/08/gustoso-antipasto-attesa-maggio-della-portata-principale-bob-sinatra-scusate-dylan-melancholy-mood/, quindi veniamo alle altre uscite.
Il 20 maggio si ricostituirà anche la coppia Eric Clapton – Glyn Johns, con “Manolenta” che tornerà a farsi produrre da colui con il quale realizzò nel 1977 appunto il celebre Slowhand (e Johns fu quello che produsse il primo Led Zeppelin, Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out degli Stones, alcuni dei primi album degli Humble Pie e della Steve Miller Band, dei Family, Who’s Next, i primi Eagles, in anni recenti l’ultimo bello di Ryan Adams, Ashes & Fire, il cui album migliore, Heartbreaker, di prossima ristampa il 6 maggio, in versione tripla, era stato prodotto dal figlio di Glyn, Ethan Johns, insomma uno “bravino”). Clapton aveva annunciato il suo “ritiro”, ma evidentemente solo dai tour lunghi e stressanti (infatti il 13 aprile di quest’anno era in concerto a Tokyo, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfjgDNMzGTA, mi sembra tanto che si ripeta la storia di Tina Turner che è si ritirata a ripetizione) comunque ad un anno dai concerti alla Royal Albert Hall eccolo in pista con un album nuovo.
Vi pareva che non dovessero uscire edizioni Deluxe dell’album nuovo? Certo che no, ed infatti I Still Do, uscirà nelle due versioni che vedete effigiate qui sopra, una definita (da me) del “tubo”, che è quella in formato chiavetta USB, e l’altra Deluxe Denim Box, del colore dei giubbetti che usava Eric, in teoria saranno in vendita solo sul sito di Clapton, a prezzi esorbitanti, ma quella più lussuosa andrà anche nei canali normali, distribuita dalla Universal, la major che pubblica i prodotti della Bushbranch/Surfdog, ossia l’etichetta del nostro. E che mirabolanti bonus conterrà, per un prezzo che è previsto circa del quadruplo rispetto alla versione singola? Ben 2 bonus tracks, Lonesome e Freight Train, più un video di 45 minuti con il Making Of, e qualche filmato in studio e dal vivo, nonché la versione in WAV dell’album e due videoclip. Però, direi che questa è la sublimazione della “fregatura” della Deluxe Edition, per due canzoni inedite questa volta si sono superati.

Tra i musicisti annunciati nell’album, Henry Spinetti, Dave Bronze, Andy Fairweather-Low, Paul Carrack, Chris Stainton, Simon Climie, Dirk Powell, Walt Richmond, Ethan Johns (toh!) e Michelle John e Sharon White, le due vocalist di colore, viene riportato anche l’Angelo Mysterioso, chitarra acustica e voce, che era lo pseudonimo che usò George Harrison in Badge dei Cream, chi sarà questa volta?
Comunque devo dire che però dell’album si parla bene, e a giudicare dalla prima canzone rilasciata potrebbe essere vero, quindi può “ritirarsi” tutte le volte che vuole se poi fa dei dischi belli.
Per il recente Record Store Day sono usciti due prodotti legati al nome di Tom Petty, uno è il vinile di Kiss My Amps 2, con materiale dal vivo raro e di cui più avanti parleremo nel Blog, e un un 7″ con due canzoni dei Mudcrutch (che non sono inedite, ma verranno pubblicate nel prossimo album della band).

Il bassista del gruppo, quel Tom Petty, mi sembra bravo!
In passato erano usciti parecchi tributi dedicati ai Grateful Dead (penso a Deadicated del 1991 come al migliore https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CDuQmhTyD4), ma dopo il cinquantennio della band hanno deciso di fare le cose in grande e la 4AD pubblicherà questo mastodontico Day Of The Dead, un box di 5 CD curato da Aaron and Bryce Dessner dei National, con un cast di partecipanti veramente strepitoso, molti nomi noti ma anche “promesse”, emergenti e nomi che mi sono del tutto ignoti.

Nel 1991 uscì una VHS intitolata Highwaymen Live, registrata l’anno prima al Nassau Coliseum. Poi negli anni di quel concerto si sono perse le tracce, ora la Sony/Bmg pubblicherà un box quadruplo, tre CD + DVD o tre CD + Blu-Ray, con il concerto completo del 14 marzo 1990 al Nassau Coliseum, Uniondale, New York, 35 brani in tutto, sia nei due CD come nel video, con in più 11 brani nel terzo CD, 10 registrati dal vivo ai Farm Aid del 1992 e 1993 e una versione inedita di One Too Many Mornings, un pezzo di Dylan che Johnny Cash e Waylon Jennings incisero nell’album Heroes del 1986, al quale Willie Nelson e Kris Kristofferson, gli altri due Highwaymen, hanno aggiunto nuova parti vocali nel 2014.

Come detto il DVD o il Blu-Ray ripetono (con la parte video, e non è secondario) la tracklist dei due CD.
Perché parlare di un triplo cofanetto di Allen Ginsberg? Perché come risulta chiaro nel titolo del Post, alle sessions che diedero vita al materiale contenuto in questo triplo CD The Last Word On First Blues, che verrà pubblicato dalla Omnivore Recordings, partecipò in modo massiccio un certo Bob Dylan, chiamato proprio da Ginsberg, insieme a David Amran, Happy Traum e al giovane (allora, siamo nel 1971) cellista Arthur Russell. Autore dei testi (ovviamente) e voce solista fu Allen Ginsberg. Le registrazioni rimasero inedite fino al 1983 quando furono pubblicate in un doppio vinile chiamato First Blues, insieme ad altre sessions, una del 1976 prodotta da John Hammond e una del 1981, a cui parteciparono anche Peter Orlovsky e David Mansfield. Nella nuova versione tripla della Omnivore ci sono altri 11 brani inediti, anche live con Dylan, e un brano dove Don Cherry si esibisce al kazoo.
Quindi chi sarà interessato a questo cofanetto? Fans della Beat Generation o di Bob Dylan? Voi che dite? Io pensi entrambi. Comunque questa è la lista completa dei brani:
