Kate Bush – The Other Sides – 4CD Parolophone/Rhino – 22-03-2019
Vi ricordate i due cofanetti dedicati a Kate Bush usciti lo scorso mese di novembre? Ve ne avevo parlato in un Post https://discoclub.myblog.it/2018/10/21/prossime-uscite-autunnali-13-kate-bush-remastered-part-i-ii-come-dicono-i-titoli-tutto-il-catalogo-ristampato-in-due-box-in-uscita-il-16-e-30-novembre/ Il secondo Remastered, oltre agli album pubblicati dal 2005 al 2016 conteneva anche quattro CD di materiale “raro”, non pubblicato nella discografia ufficiale della cantante inglese.
Naturalmente ora la Warner, il 22 marzo, pubblicherà come cofanetto a sé stante proprio quei 4 CD, per la gioia di chi aveva acquistato il Box proprio perché interessato a quelle rarità.Il tutto ad un prezzo indicativo particolarmente interessante e contenuto, intorno ai 30 euro, a differenza dei due Remastered che invece erano abbastanza costosi.

Sempre il gruppo Warner pubblicherà in data 19 aprile un cofanetto dedicato a Stevie Nicks, sulla falsariga di quello uscito lo scorso anno, sempre in autunno e dedicato a Lindsey Buckingham https://discoclub.myblog.it/2018/10/16/un-esaustivo-viaggio-attraverso-la-carriera-solista-di-un-musicista-eccelso-ma-sottovalutato-lindsey-buckingham-solo-anthology/ . Non sia mai che anche la sua compagna di vita ed avventure musicali non venisse debitamente omaggiata, anche se per la verità della bionda cantautrice di Phoenix era già stato pubblicato dalla Atlantic nel lontano 1998 un box triplo retrospettivo intitolato Enchanted, non più in produzione da anni, e che solo in parte si sovrappone come contenuti a quello attuale, pur presentando parecchie differenze, visto che arriva cronologicamente fino ai giorni nostri.

Iain Matthews – Orphans And Outcasts – 4 CD Cherry Red – 26-04-2019
Alla fine di Aprile, il giorno 26, è prevista l’uscita di questo cofanetto Orphans And Outcasts dedicato a Iain Matthews, che come recita il sottotitolo raccoglie Demos, Outtakes And Live Performances. I più attenti, o quelli con la memoria migliore, ricorderanno che negli anni ’90 erano già usciti tre CD con lo stesso titolo, rispettivamente nel 1991, 1993 e 1998, per una piccola etichetta, la Dirty Linen, dischi che già da lunga pezza sono scomparsi nella notte dei tempi. Molti sapranno chi è Matthews, ma per i più giovani, o per chi lo ignora, ricordiamo che è stato il primo cantante dei Fairport Convention, poi negli anni ha militato nei Matthews Southern Comfort, nei Plainsong, negli Hi-Fi, insieme a David Surkamp dei Pavlov’s Dog, oltre ad avere registrato una serie di spesso meravigliosi album solisti, in bilico tra il miglior folk-rock britannico e la più luminosa musica west-coastiana. Nel box è raccolto materiale proveniente da tutti i periodi (con l’esclusione dei Fairport, ma con un brano dei Pyramid del lontano 1966) che è stato opportunamente rimasterizzato, ed è stato anche aggiunto un quarto volume con ulteriori rarità, live e outtakes.
Ecco la lista completa dei contenuti. Oltre a tutto pare che il cofanetto, a livello indicativo tra i 30 e i 35 euro, avrà anche un prezzo particolarmente appetibile.

Sempre il 26 aprile, e sempre per una etichetta del gruppo Cherry Red, è prevista la pubblicazione di questo cofanetto triplo dedicato agli Steeleye Span, la storica band folk-rock inglese fondata da Ashley Hutchings dopo la sua fuoriuscita dai Fairport Convention. Il box raccoglie i primi tre album del gruppo, pubblicati appunto nel biennio 1970-1971, arricchiti di alcune rarità (poche per la verità) e con i CD che riproducono le grafiche degli album originali, nonché un libretto di 32 pagine che racconta la storia di quel glorioso periodo.

Van Der Graaf Generator – The Aerosol Grey Machine – 50th Anniversary Edition box set – 2 CD +LP + 45 giri Esoteric UK
The Aerosol Grey Machine è il primo album dei Van Der Graaf Generator di Peter Hammill, l’unico uscito per la Mercury/Fontana (ma in Italia l’etichetta era Vertigo) nel 1969, e quindi ci risiamo con i 50esimi farlocchi, ma ormai ci siamo abituati. Prima del passaggio alla Charisma Records per il trittico dei loro tre album migliori,The Least We Can Do Is Wave to Each Other, H To He,Who Am The Only One e Pawn Hearts, coincisi con l’ingresso nella formazione britannica di David Jackson, il sassofonista e flautista che insieme all’organista Hugh Banton, fu il motore principale del suono della band, insieme alla voce strepitosa di Peter Hammill.
L’album nel corso degli anni è stato giustamente rivalutato, anche se rimane inferiore ai tre citati poc’anzi, però come al solito si è voluto esagerare nel formato, spesso scontentando molti di quelli che sarebbero stati interessati a questa ristampa. Perché optare per questi formati misti, che uniscono vinili e CD insieme, quando si sarebbe potuta fare una edizione in LP e una in CD? Ok, nella confezione c’è anche un sontuoso libro con foto, interviste e un saggio di Sid Smith, oltre ad un poster creato dallo stesso Hammill, portando il prezzo però ad una altrettanto sontuosa cifra indicativa per il costo vicina ai 60 euro, che per chi è interessato solo al secondo CD, quello con inediti e rarità (quei pochi già non apparsi in precedenti ristampe), certo non incoraggia all’acquisto.
