Quest’anno è il 50° Anniversario Dei Famosi “3 Giorni Di Pace E Musica” che si tennero in quel di Woodstock dal 15 al 18 agosto del 1969 (in effetti quattro perché alcune esibizioni, tra cui quella conclusiva di Jimi Hendrix, si tennero la mattina di lunedì 18 agosto, e per essere ancora più precisi il luogo esatto fu Bethel, una piccola località nei pressi di New York, vicina appunto alla cittadina di Woodstock). Come avrete letto o sentito era stata annunciata da Michael Lang, l’organizzatore della manifestazione originale, una edizione per festeggiare il 50° Anniversario Dell’Evento da tenersi a Watkins Glen tra il 16 ed il 18 agosto del 2019, ma poi il 29 aprile molti degli sponsors e degli investitori coinvolti nel finanziamento della produzione hanno annunciato che il Festival era stato cancellato. Ma Lang e gli altri organizzatori hanno cercato lungamente di tenere ugualmente lo spettacolo, ma poi all’inizio di agosto il “nuovo” Fesival è stato definitavamente cancellato. Tra i musicisti annunciati c’erano anche alcuni dei principali protagonisti della Woodstock originale: John Fogerty (dei Creedence Clearwater Revival), Carlos Santana (dei Santana), David Crosby (in rappresentanza di Crosby, Stills & Nash), Melanie, John Sebastian, Country Joe McDonald, 3 dei Grateful Dead sopravvissuti (come Dead & Company), i Canned Heat, e gli Hot Tuna (con due dei Jefferson Airplane originali). Alla fine però, come detto, non se ne è fatto nella, per cui occupiamoci della notizia certa.

La Rhino ha pubblicato il 2 agosto, con vendita solo sul proprio sito, questa mega versione “definitiva” che contiene le esibizioni complete di tutti gli artisti che si esibirono al Festival, quasi, perché mancano 2 brani di JImi Hendrix, la cui famiglia non ha dato l’autorizzazione alla pubblicazione, e uno degli Sha Na Na, per problemi tecnici: un totale di 432 brani, 267 mai pubblicati prima, divisi su 38 CD, più il Blu-ray della Director’s Cut ampliata del film, un libro rilegato con la storia del Festival raccontata da Michael Lang, la replica del poster e dei programmi originali, le stampe delle foto di Henry Diltz e una tracolla per chitarra. Il tutto inserito in una confezione di legno compensato e tela con copertina serigrafata, in tiratura limitata e numerata, manco a dirlo, di 1969 copie. Questa edizione costava, per quei pochi che se la sono potuta permettere in giro per il mondo, la modica cifra di 799.98 dollari (per noi europei ed italiani, tradotto e maggiorato con l’aggiunta di spese di spedizione, spese doganali, tasse e quant’altro, voleva dire circa 1000 euro presumo, ed è andata comunque completamente esaurita, ebbene sì! La lista completa dei brani non è stata annunciata (comunque si trovava facilmente in rete), ma gli artisti presenti, in rigoroso ordine cronologico di apparizione sono i seguenti.

Per fortuna la Rhino per i più poveri ha pubblicato anche due versioni (tre con il vinile quintuplo) “normali” con degli estratti dalla edizione completa. In uscita il 28 giugno abbiamo quindi avuto un cofanetto da 10 CD, definito Experience, con 162 brani a rappresentare con almeno un pezzo, anche in questo caso per la prima volta, tutti i gruppi e i solisti che si esibirono nei tre giorni. Questa versione costa “solo” circa 125 dollari o euro, mentre quella da 3 CD, definita Collection, con 42 delle più belle canzoni estratte dall’integrale, intorno ai 20 euro; “stranamente” sempre senza Jimi Hendrix in quella tripla, mi è cascato subito l’occhio leggendo la lista dei contenuti, che comunque trovate qui sotto, prima quella da 10 CD.
