Paul Butterfield – Complete Albums1965-1980 – 14CD box set (Elektra/Rhino/Warner) – 30-10-2015
Come vi dicevo alcuni giorni or sono tra i vari box annunciati dal gruppo Warner in uscita per il 30 ottobre 2015 c’è anche questo bellissimo cofanetto dedicato al grande armonicista e cantante blues Paul Butterfield, scomparso ormai dal maggio 1987, al quale non era mai stata dedicata una ampia antologia retrospettiva, nonostante la sua copiosa produzione, sia con la Butterfield Blues Band, sia con i Better Days, come anche i pochi album solisti a nome proprio. Diciamo che questa volta il termine “Complete” è più aderente alla realtà, anche se non completamente esatto, in quanto nel box manca il suo ultimo album solista The Legendary Paul Butterfield Rides Again, uscito per la Amherst nel 1986, che però obiettivamente è veramente un brutto disco, infarcito di disco music e rock americano anni ’80, lontanissimo dalle radici blues del musicista di Chicago. Mentre, più colpevolmente, è assente l’ottimo Live At Winterland Ballroom, dei Better Days, registrato nel 1973 e pubblicato nel 1999 e ristampato nel 2014 http://discoclub.myblog.it/2014/09/05/piccoli-tesori-riemergono-paul-butterfields-better-days-live-at-winterland-ballroom/, più qualche album dal vivo postumo, tra cui l’ottimo Rockpalast del 1978/2008 e qualche ex bootleg o broadcast radiofonico, uscito sempre di recente il doppio Paul Butterfield Live New York 1970, ma la discografia ufficiale è presente tutta, questi gli album:

Mi è ignoto cosa sia questo Live In Whitelake, NY 8/19/69, ma vado a intuito. Dovrebbe essere l’esibizione completa a Woodstock (in realtà lo è, perché ho verificato), solo che la data esatta era il 18/8 e il nome della località era quello della comunità più vicina al sito del Festival. Per cui trattasi di album inedito, in effetti nella parte anteriore del cofanetto sono riportate solo 13 copertine. E sempre per la precisione nonostante il cofanetto riporti 1965-1980, l’album North South è del 1981!
