Alla fine, come volevasi dimostrare, il fatto di non avere trovato il famoso megabox di 19 CD dedicato a Sandy Denny e uscito sul finire del 2010, è stato quasi un bene. Pubblicato in tiratura limitata, ha raggiunto la rispettabile quotazione di quasi 1000 sterline, per avere il contenuto di circa 6 CD di effettivi inediti. Ma nel corso del 2011, prima la Universal con il doppio Deluxe di The North Star Grassmen And The Ravens e poi l’etichetta degli Strawbs la Witchwood con 19 Rupert Street hanno intaccato questo tesoro di materiale “inedito”.
E noi appassionati di Sandy Denny e della buona musica, che spesso sono sinomini, giustamente ne godiamo. Ora, per la verità il 21 maggio, sono “leggermente” in anticipo, usciranno anche le altre tre ristampe degli album ufficiali pubblicati dalla Island negli anni ’70 e ognuno con la sua cornucopia di materiale inedito.
Sandy, il secondo album solista del 1972, è considerato il suo capolavoro (ma anche gli altri tre non scherzano, soprattutto il primo) e contiene alcuni dei suoi brani migliori in assoluto, questa la tracklist, con gli inediti del secondo CD (anche il primo ne contiene ma erano già disponibili nella versione singola rimasterizzata) e la lista dei musicisti presenti nell’album:

I brani dal vivo dal n.11 al 18 del secondo CD sono tratti da un concerto a Ebbets Fields nel 1973, la stessa località del concerto della reunion dei Fairport Convention del 1974, pubblicato lo scorso anno in CD e recensito su questo Blog temp-543f49c8379d3220356612f7924b94d1.html . Questo mitico Ebbets Field, che si trova a Denver, Colorado e dove hanno suonato in quegli anni anche molti musicisti e gruppi di grande valore, Little Feat, Tommy Bolin, Tom Waits, Joan Armatrading, Chris Hillman, Pure Prairie League, Gene Clark e tantissimi altri, non è, come potrebbe fare pensare il nome “un campo” all’aperto dove si tenevano eventi oceanici dal vivo, ma un piccolo locale con circa 200 posti i cui concerti però spesso venivano mandati in onda in ambite trasmissioni radiofoniche che sono state tramandate ai posteri e ora vedono la luce a livello discografico.

So di fare del male ai vostri portafogli ma direi che non si può prescindere dall’acquisto.
