Pentangle – The Albums 1968-1972 – Box 7 CD Cherry Red Uk – 29-09-2017
Nel corso degli anni ai Pentangle sono state dedicate diverse ristampe, compreso un bellissimo box da 4 CD The Time Has Come, pubblicato nel 2007 dalla Castle Music, che negli anni 2000 aveva pubblicato anche tutte le ristampe, rimasterizzate e potenziate da bonus tracks, dei 6 album registrati dalla band nel periodo classico 1968-1972, gli anni della formazione originale: Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Jacqui McShee, Danny Thompson e Terry Cox. Di recente, a seguito della scomparsa prima di Jansch e poi di Renbourn c’è stato un grande ritorno di interesse per questo formidabile quintetto, una delle band seminali del revival del “British Folk”, ma anche una delle più grandi ed eclettiche della scena musicale inglese. Proprio sul finire dello scorso anno vi avevo parlato di uno splendido doppio CD http://discoclub.myblog.it/2016/11/06/supplemento-della-domenica-lultimo-atto-straordinaria-carriera-pentangle-finale/ che raccoglieva le registrazioni dell’ultimo tour di reunion e di commiato della band nella formazione classica, e comunque le celebrazioni proseguono, con le (ri)pubblicazioni degli ultimi album solisti di Bert Jansch in cofanetti arricchiti sempre da qualche chicca, nonché di un album inedito di John Renbourn Joint Control, registrato poco prima della morte insieme a Wizz Jones. Ora la Cherry Red pubblica questo cofanetto da 7 CD che raccoglie i 6 album del gruppo incisi per la Transatlantic (e uno per la Reprise) in quei “magici” 5 anni, in occasione del 50° anniversario della nascita della band, avvenuta appunto nel 1967.

Sono gli stessi contenuti dei singoli album che erano già usciti? Direi di no, sono stati inseriti anche brani tratti dai dischi solisti di Jansch e Renbourn, oltre ad outtakes e brani dal vivo, mentre i compilatori del cofanetto annunciano che ci sono 22 brani comunque inediti. Non ho avuto tempo di verificare se non erano stati già inseriti nel box quadruplo o in altre compilations varie uscite nel corso degli anni, ma diamogli fiducia. Quando sarà il momento, ovvero dopo l’uscita prevista per il 29 settembre, verificheremo nella recensione ad uopo dedicata a questo Pentangle The Albums 1968-1972, che fa il paio come importanza con il cofanetto dei Fairport Convention Come All Ye The First Ten Years, di cui leggerete sul Blog la recensione completa nel supplemento della domenica.
