Pink Floyd – The Later Years 1987-2019 – Box 18 dischi: 5 CD + 6 Blu-ray + 5 DVD + 2 45 giri Parlophone/Warner – 29-11-2019
Tre anni fa, annunciato sempre in questo periodo abbastanza a sorpresa, era uscito https://discoclub.myblog.it/2016/12/04/supplemento-della-domenica-tesori-ritrovati-pink-floyd-the-early-years-1965-1972/ , un cofanetto mastodontico che copriva i primi sette anni della band inglese attraverso un cofanetto quasi totalmente inedito a livello ufficiale, con una piccola parte di rarità: un box di ben 28 dischetti (compreso il CD bonus di Pompei aggiunto all’ultimo momento), diviso in 7 parti, per un totale di 10 (+1) CD, 9 DVD, 8 Blu-ray, 7 libri e 5 singoli in vinile, se volete leggervi il tutto andate al link qui sopra. Ovviamente il manufatto aveva un prezzo non indifferente tra i 400 e i 500 euro in giro per il mondo. Poco dopo l’uscita era stato annunciato che ci sarebbe stato un seguito, non i Middle Years, quelli dal 1973 al 1985, anno dell’abbandono o dell’allontanamento di Roger Waters dai Pink Floyd, scegliete voi il termine, in quanto sembrano essere ripresi i dissapori tra le due fazioni, quella di David Gilmour, Nick Mason e degli eredi dello scomparso Rick Wright, depositari del nome, e appunto Waters, che dopo la reunion per il Live8, avevano stranamente collaborato per il primo box, ma ovviamente questo cofanetto deve avere riaperto vecchie ferite e rancori, visto che si tratta di un periodo nel quale Roger non faceva più parte della band a nessun titolo, proseguendo la sua carriera solista. Quindi non sarà facile assemblare il secondo box che dovrebbe coprire il periodo di maggiore successo discografico dei Floyd, ma mai dire mai.
E quindi siamo passati direttamente all’ultima fase che copre gli anni dal 1987 al 2019, anche se discograficamente si arriva solo al 1995 (anzi, per la precisione, c’è anche il Syd Barrett Tribute Concert del 2007 dei riuniti Pink Floyd, senza Waters, in uno dei due singoli in vinile e anche nel Blu-ray n°6 e nel DVD n° 5), quindi niente Division Bell su CD,( ma solo nel BD o nel DVD), Live 8 e The Endless River (a parte qualche frammento sparso qui e là), e il 2019 è riferito solo all’anno dei Remix vari. Scorrendo velocemente i contenuti, tra le cose più interessanti si segnalano nella parte audio CD, a parte i remix potenziati 2019 di A Momentary Lapse Of Reason e del doppio Delicate Sound Of Thunder, che dai 120 minuti della versione originale è stato portato a 140 minuti; nel quarto dischetto brani inediti vari sia in studio che dal vivo, e nel quinto il Knebworth Concert del 1990. Nei 6 Blu-ray c’è il solito, inutile per i non audiofili, Surround & Hi-res Audio Mix di materiale vario, Delicate Sound Of Thunder restaurato e remixato, non solo la parte audio ma anche il video, stesso discorso per Pulse, che però non appare come CD, i concerti di Venezia e Knebworth, finalmente in video, e un Blu-ray contenente documentari, filmati vari inediti, prove e presentazioni ad eventi, compresa quella a The Endless River, come pure il relativo film inedito di 52 minuti di Ian Emes. Infine i DVD, che purtroppo, come nell’altro cofanetto, duplicano gli stessi contenuti dei Blu-ray, anche se non quello con i mix surround e hi-res. Poi ci sono due 45 giri, uno con il brano Arnold Layne dal tributo ricordato poc’anzi e l’altro con Lost For Words dalle prove per il Pulse Tour del 1994, infine la solita pletora di libri e memorabilia varia, che potete vedere bene cliccando sopra l’immagine all’inizio del Post per allargarla.

Tra le note negative anche il fatto che i primi prezzi, apparsi sui siti di vendita in giro per il mondo, parlano di cifre spropositate oscillanti tra i 490 e i 550 euro: considerando che la confezione contiene una dozzina di supporti in meno rispetto al cofanetto precedente e anche che il materiale inedito risulta assai più striminzito, la faccenda merita di essere valutata con attenzione. Per cui considerando che il tutto è previsto in uscita per il 29 novembre, “casualmente” nel periodo natalizio, avete tutto il tempo per meditarci sopra, fan sfegatati esclusi, forse.
